In addition to letting your radios interoperate, WAVE acts as a bridge connecting you to other organizations and their radios. For fire, police, and public safety first-responders, emergency radio talk groups can be a life-and-death matter. When the conversation needs to expand, WAVE permits phones, PCs, and other devices to communicate freely with your radios, all under the control of your dispatchers.

WAVE was designed for secure, reliable, and survivable communications. Radio interoperability remains under the secure control of your dispatchers at all times. WAVE can encrypt your VoIP and network control traffic and, in high-security environments, WAVE supports your plug-in traffic encryption requirements. WAVE also supports PIN-based user authentication. In addition, WAVE meets U.S. Department of Homeland Security SAFECOM requirements for interoperability and integration.

WAVE Components at a Glance

• The WAVE Management Server configures and administers a WAVE system
• The WAVE Media Server is WAVE's media processing engine.
• The WAVE Desktop Communicator^® lets users access a Channel from a PC. It can run in a web browser.
• The WAVE Dispatch Communicator^® is used by radio dispatchers to manage multiple simultaneous conversations.
• WAVE Channels represent logical groupings of devices. Channels are stable structures created when the system is initially configured.
• WAVE Sessions tie other WAVE components together to perform a specific function. Sessions live on Media Servers and may be created on the fly.
