WAVE Powers RAVIN to Multi-Million Dollar Unified Communications Contract with Utility Giant PG&E

Seattle, Washington, USA – April 24, 2008: Twisted Pair Solutions (www.twistpair.com), a pioneer in unified communications software built to open standards, today announced that its WAVE® software technology has been fully integrated into the RAVIN® radio and voice interoperability solution developed by Network Integration and Consulting Services (NICS) of Draper, UT. The company also announced that the RAVIN platform has been selected by Pacific Gas & Electric Corporation (PG&E) as part of a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract to consolidate widely distributed electric control center operations.

One of the largest utility providers in North America, PG&E is a California-based utility delivering gas and electric power to more than 15 million people throughout northern and central California. PG&E represents approximately $34.8 billion in assets as of year-end 2006.

With many regions of the country having experienced widespread forest fires, heavy flooding or ice storms this year, some public utilities have already had their crisis management and business continuity plans put to the test.  Moreover, ongoing national concerns about terrorism, earthquakes and flu pandemics are forcing many of them to look even deeper at how they will coordinate and manage operations for a large and distributed field service organization, likely swollen with supporting guest crews using disparate communications technologies.

“Communications interoperability is a major focus for public utilities as they review and reinforce their emergency management processes and procedures,” said Tom Guthrie, President and CEO of Twisted Pair Solutions.  “Developed by NICS using the WAVE SDK, RAVIN leverages the power of WAVE software to deliver a state-of-the-art unified communications platform that meets all of PG&E’s business continuity planning requirements.”

RAVIN is designed to seamlessly integrate existing radio communications, telephony and IP network infrastructures to enhance an organization’s day-to-day and emergency communications capabilities, while providing a massively scalable platform for future system enhancements.  PG&E will deploy RAVIN as part of its plans to cost-effectively extend the useful life of its existing communications technologies and support operators with unified communications functionality, interoperability and mobility.

“PG&E recognized the value of unifying its communications systems with the RAVIN technology and WAVE is a major component of the solution,” said NICS managing partner Tim Willoughby. “We chose to integrate WAVE into RAVIN because it’s a proven technology already widely deployed in mission-critical applications worldwide.  But perhaps more importantly from a development standpoint, the WAVE SDK allowed us to bring a high-value solution to market quickly and cost-effectively.”
