British Columbia Ambulance Service Selects WAVE for Unified Dispatch Center Communications

Seattle, Washington, USA – August 27, 2008 – Twisted Pair Solutions (www.twistpair.com), a pioneer in unified communications software built to open standards, today announced that British Columbia Ambulance Service (BCAS), one of the largest ambulance services in North America, has selected its WAVE  communications interoperability software as part of a dispatch center solution developed by Positronics Enterprises, a WAVE Solution Developer Partner. The Positronics solution is designed to unify BCAS’ radio communications across the province for greater reliability and maximum uptime.

BCAS provides public ambulance service in British Columbia under the authority of the Emergency Health Services Commission of the provincial Ministry of Health. BCAS employs 1,100 full-time paramedic and dispatch personnel, 2,200 part-time staff, and 100 management and support personnel. The provincial call volume is about 530,000 calls annually, ranking the BCAS as one of the largest ambulance services in North America. The system bridges major regional disparities in both geography and population density across the province.

Using the WAVE software development kit (SDK), Positronics is converting the BCAS dispatch service to IP to enable seamless operation between dispatchers. With WAVE, the new system will be able to utilize the same interface as the previous system, ensuring a smooth user transition. It will also offer critical redundancy in the event of high call volumes or a temporary call center closure.

Positronics has been servicing the two way mobile radio market since 1984. The company builds easy to use communication systems that offer users maximum successful radio communication.

“Twisted Pair’s powerful WAVE SDK allows us to directly embed a customized solution that is highly scalable and reliable,” said Peter Sivers, president of Positronics. “WAVE’s land mobile radio integration allows us to quickly implement a closed-loop interoperability system that delivers immediate operational benefits and cost savings.”

WAVE powers some of the world’s most advanced VoIP applications with a highly secure and flexible solution for unified group communications. Using standard IP networks as the unifying medium, WAVE enables disparate communications systems such as radios, analog and new IP phone systems, PCs and PDAs to all interoperate seamlessly. Twisted Pair’s distinct software-based approach to interoperability allows enterprises to leverage their existing hardware resources and/or develop unique customized solutions.
