Twisted Pair Solutions Supports Critical Air Evac Lifeteam Evacuations During 2008 Hurricane Season

Seattle, Washington, USA – September 22, 2008 – Twisted Pair Solutions (www.twistpair.com), a pioneer in unified communications software built to open standards, today highlighted a WAVE® deployment at Air Evac Lifeteam (AEL), an emergency response organization responsible for completing several hundred critical evacuations in Texas during 2008 Hurricanes Gustav and Ike. AEL, one of the largest air medical operations in the U.S., utilizes WAVE software technology to instantly and seamlessly connect flight crews with receiving hospital medical staff regardless of equipment incompatibilities.

“AEL is dedicated to helping its patients receive the medical attention they need as quickly and efficiently as possible,” said Don Looper, Communications Systems Manager at Air Evac Lifeteam. “With a hurricane, the number of patients needing urgent medical attention or transfer from one location to another can increase exponentially, so it’s important that we have a communications system in place that can easily handle this increased demand. Fortunately, WAVE is designed to offer almost unlimited scalability, allowing us to respond to critical events with absolute confidence in our communications capabilities.”

AEL leverages Twisted Pair’s WAVE software to enable disparate communications systems such as radios and IP phone systems to interoperate seamlessly. With WAVE, flight crews are able to use their radios to communicate directly with the initiators of emergency calls and receiving hospitals, allowing the clear, effective transfer of critical patient information. During Hurricanes Gustav and Ike, WAVE enabled AEL’s emergency workers to effectively dispatch and track helicopter air medical evacuations from Texas area hospitals.

“We’re honored to be a part of the life-saving efforts performed by AEL on a day-to-day basis,” said Tom Guthrie, President and CEO at Twisted Pair Solutions. “As AEL’s recent hurricane operations demonstrate, evacuation plans can be executed quickly and easily with minimal hardship on the patients. We look forward to helping other public safety organizations increase the effectiveness of their large scale and day-to-day emergency response capabilities with strong communications.”

AEL responds to calls for emergency air medical service from more than 635,000 members and more than 1,300 hospitals and EMS agencies across a 13 state region. The organization operates more than 100 helicopters at more than 75 bases. Twisted Pair’s partner National Interop (www.nationalinterop.com) began deployment of the WAVE radio system in early 2008 and is continuing with the final stages of implementation/installation within the Air Evac system.
