Twisted Pair, SAFECOM and Other Industry Stakeholders Further Advance VoIP Interoperability Specification

Seattle, Washington, USA – September 30, 2008 – Twisted Pair Solutions (www.twistpair.com), a pioneer in unified communications software built to open standards, today announced its continued participation in the creation and testing of the Bridging Systems Interface (BSI), a SAFECOM-led VoIP specification. During the fifth Department of Homeland Security (DHS)/SAFECOM VoIP roundtable discussion and “Plugfest” event, recently held at Twisted Pair’s Seattle headquarters, Twisted Pair and other vendors tested their compliance with the BSI specification, a standard VoIP interface that will ensure compatibility among communications equipment manufacturers.

The BSI compliance testing included solutions from Twisted Pair, VoiceInterop, National Interop, Catalyst Communications, SyTech, MutualLink, C4i and JPS/Raytheon. Following the compatibility testing, the participating vendors joined constituents from SAFECOM, a DHS communications program, and other industry practitioners in a roundtable discussion on the results of the testing and enhancements for the next version of the BSI specification.

The next phase of BSI development includes the addition of new features and functionality as suggested by practitioners. An updated version of the BSI specification is likely to be available for approval by the DHS/SAFECOM VoIP Working Group by the end of 2008, followed by additional vendor interoperability testing in the first half of 2009.

Since the inception of the DHS/SAFECOM VoIP Working Group, Twisted Pair has worked with SAFECOM and other industry stakeholders to help define and test the BSI. Following the implementation of this standard, organizations will be empowered to seamlessly connect with other groups regardless of equipment disparities.
