Twisted Pair, SAFECOM and Other Industry Stakeholders Further Advance VoIP Interoperability SpecificationTwisted Pair, SAFECOM and Other Industry Stakeholders Further Advance VoIP Interoperability SpecificationThe BSI compliance testing included solutions from Twisted Pair, VoiceInterop, National Interop, Catalyst Communications, SyTech, MutualLink, C4i and JPS/Raytheon. Following the compatibility testing, the participating vendors joined constituents from SAFECOM, a DHS communications program, and other industry practitioners in a roundtable discussion on the results of the testing and enhancements for the next version of the BSI specification. “Having deployed strong interoperable communications in some of the world’s most demanding environments, we offer SAFECOM a compelling amount of experience from the field,” said Tom Guthrie, President and CEO at Twisted Pair Solutions. “The BSI standard is a win for organizations that are no longer willing to suffer with the limitations created by proprietary communications equipment manufacturers and their revenue-driven interests.” During the compliance testing, Twisted Pair demonstrated its WAVE® software technology, used by organizations worldwide to seamlessly connect disparate communications devices, networks and applications into a single, interoperable system. Using standard IP networks as the unifying medium, WAVE allows disparate communications systems such as radios, analog and new IP phone systems, PCs and PDAs to all interoperate seamlessly. Twisted Pair’s distinct software-based approach to interoperability empowers organizations to leverage their existing hardware resources, a benefit that delivers significant cost savings. The next phase of BSI development includes the addition of new features and functionality as suggested by practitioners. An updated version of the BSI specification is likely to be available for approval by the DHS/SAFECOM VoIP Working Group by the end of 2008, followed by additional vendor interoperability testing in the first half of 2009. Since the inception of the DHS/SAFECOM VoIP Working Group, Twisted Pair has worked with SAFECOM and other industry stakeholders to help define and test the BSI. Following the implementation of this standard, organizations will be empowered to seamlessly connect with other groups regardless of equipment disparities.
